How to Tame a Wild Beard and Complement Your Face

Do you need to tame a wild beard? Having a beard is about more than just not shaving. A well-groomed beard can enhance your face shape, giving you a stronger, more masculine look. Let’s walk through the steps to tame that wild beard of yours and ensure it complements your features.

Step 1: Prep

The best time to trim your beard is right after a shower when your beard is at its most natural state. If you’re short on time, use a hot towel to wrap around your face for about 60 seconds. The heat and moisture will help reset the hair and remove any kinks.

Next, use a blow dryer and a pick to detangle your beard, shaping it as nicely as possible. If you don’t have a blow dryer, a wide-tooth comb or pick will do the trick. Just detangle and work the beard downwards into a natural shape.

Step 2: Shaping

For this step, you’ll need an electric clipper and trimmer. The clipper removes the bulk, while the trimmer outlines. Start by focusing on the chin area, which we want to keep as long as possible to enhance your jawline.

  1. Sides: Use a number three guard on your clipper and work in a downward motion from the top of your ear, straight down your cheek. Comb through to ensure even cutting. Then switch to a number two guard to blend the sides better into your haircut, working from the mid-ear up.
  2. Base: Comb the hair down under your chin and use a clipper without a guard to clean up any uneven hairs. Tilt your head back to create a slight downward slope with the longest point at the chin. This gives a strong jaw shape.

Step 3: The Outline

Using your trimmer, create a clean baseline around your beard:

  1. Baseline: Start behind the ear and work your way down to the corner of your jaw, creating a straight line. Clean up all hair up to this line.
  2. Top Line: For a rounded face, keep the line square and straight. For a narrow face, pinch the skin upwards and create a line from the sideburn to the corner of the mouth for a gentle curve.

Step 4: The Mustache

The mustache sets the vibe of your beard. For a thick mustache, keep the lip line slightly lower, peaking over the center of your top lip. For finer mustaches, clean it directly above the top lip. Comb the mustache down and trim starting from the center outwards, ensuring a descending line toward the mouth’s corners.

For bulkier mustaches, comb forward and trim with a number three guard to remove any protruding hairs. Outline the top of the mustache and the corners for a clean finish.

Step 5: Protecting the Beard and Skin

After trimming, it’s crucial to protect your skin and beard:

  1. Aftershave Balm: Apply an aftershave balm to clean and sanitize your skin, preventing infections and irritation.
  2. Beard Wash: Use a dedicated beard wash like Beard Bright’s moisturizing wash to keep your beard soft and clean, preventing dryness and itchiness.
  3. Beard Oil: Apply Beard Bright’s beard oil to penetrate and nourish the hair and skin, keeping them soft and flake-free.
  4. Beard Balm: Use Beard Bright’s beard balm to style your beard, keeping flyaways in check and giving it a smooth appearance.

Use a flat brush to style your beard without putting tension on the hair. A blow dryer can help smooth out the beard when wet, making it look neater.

Conclusion

Following these steps will help you tame your wild beard and enhance your facial features. Keep your baseline clean, shave the neck and top areas, and let the rest grow. If the sides get puffy, repeat these steps but leave the base alone. With these grooming tips, you’ll have a beard that’s strong, masculine, and complements your face perfectly.
